The Duke Student Chapter of The Coastal Society hosted its annual Margaret A. Davidson (MAD) Workshop on December 3, 2021. This virtual event included speakers from geospatial management, advocacy, science communication, cultural communication, and other sectors. The morning panel was a question and answer session among three panelists about navigating a coastal career. The panelists represented The Pew Charitable Trusts, Speak Up for the Blue Media and Communications, and Geodynamics. The afternoon consisted of two different sets of skill-building breakout sessions during which participants learned marketable skills for internship and job searching. Sessions included Building an Advocacy Communications Campaign, Cultural Communications, How to Tell a Sci-Comm Story, How to Write an Effective Advocacy Letter, and Positioning Yourself for the Big Interview.
